That WKRP call sign is a reference to, ahem, fertilizer.
WKRP in Cincinnati maker Hugh Wilson uncovered to The Cincinnati Enquirer that WKRP means “poop,” and that he picked Cincinnati since it matched well with the call sign.
WKRC in Cincinnati thought WKRP in Cincinnati was extraordinary exposure.
CBS legal advisors initially rejected the WKRP call sign since it was excessively near Cincinnati’s genuine WKRC radio broadcast, as Wilson told the TV Institute Establishment in 2015. “I called [WKRC], and I said, ‘Could we at any point have your consent [so] that you won’t sue us?'” he reviewed. “Also, they said, ‘Would you say you are joking? This is perfect!’ They considered it to be an incredible exposure opportunity for them.… They thought it was magnificent.”
It was a CBS show that exhibited an NBC partner’s transmission tower.
Seems like the CBS legal counselors had no misgivings with the WKRP opening credits focusing on a transmission tower having a place with NBC partner WLWT. (Tower buff Scott Fybush brought up that confused reality on his blog in 2003.)
David Cassidy turned down the piece of Dr. Johnny Fever.
The Partridge Family star and adolescent symbol was WKRP makers’ best option for plate jockey Dr. Johnny Fever, as per MeTV, and when he expressed no to the job, Howard Hesseman took the part. (Hesseman was initially welcome to peruse for Spice yet requested to peruse for Johnny, all things considered, MeTV adds.)
